This article explains how to navigate and interpret the Financials page within PM Bridge. It helps you understand where financial data originates, how it's used, and how you can interact with it.

pushpin The Financials page provides a comprehensive overview of your project's financial status. While much of the data is read-only, understanding its source and meaning is crucial. Data related to funding profiles and costs comes from various source systems, ensuring accuracy and consistency across platforms.

STEP 1: View Your Project Financials

  • To access your project's financials, navigate to the PM Bridge Home Page.

  • On the Right Action Panel, click on the "Project Financials" tab.

pushpin Once you arrive on the Financials page, you'll find different sections including the Funding Profile, Funding Profile by Budget Period, and Costs, and Obligations.  

To see the expanded view of the Financials page, click the '+' sign to expand all sections.


STEP 2: Understand Your Funding Profile

  • Locate the Funding Profile section. This section provides an overview of your project's budget.

    • Total Approved Budget: This is the current approved budget for your project, which is a combination of the Federal Share and, if applicable, the Recipient Share.

    • Federal Share: This shows the current cumulative federal funding allocated to your project.

    • Recipient Share: This indicates the current total required cost share from the recipient.

  • Review your Funding Profile data: Be aware that the data fields in this section are read-only. You cannot edit these values directly.


STEP 3: Examine Funding Profile by Budget Period

  • If your project is a Financial Assistance project, you will see a Funding Profile by Budget Period section.

    • This section displays the budget period for your project and the associated DOE Share, Recipient Share, and Cost Share amounts for each period.

    • You can enter the Federal Share and Recipient Share for the Approved Budget Period. The system automatically calculates the Cost Share.

STEP 4: View Your Costs and Obligations

  • Locate the Cost and Obligations section to view detailed cost and obligation data

    • This view of the Financials page is only available for Financial Assistance projects.

    • Observe that the cost and obligations data displays with gray fields, indicating it is read-only.

    • View ITD Obligations: This shows the cumulative obligations from the beginning of the project to the current date.

    • View ITD Cost: This shows the cumulative cost from the beginning of the project to the current date.

  • To filter the data, click the 'Year Dropdown'. You can filter by a specific Fiscal Year or view all Fiscal Years.

  • You have two options for viewing the table:

    • View by Monthly Activity: This shows a snapshot of monthly activity including Obligations, Costs, and Payments (MTD Obligations, MTD Costs, MTD Payments) for a specific FM-FY.

    • View by ITD: This provides a cumulative snapshot of your financial data over the life of the project up to the current FM-FY.

  • To see a visual representation of your financial history, expand the Action panel by at least two-thirds of the way. This will reveal the "Financial History Graph."

    • The graph displays data sourced from the Costs & Obligations detail table, helping you better understand and visualize your financials.

    • The visualization is achieved by embedding an EDC PowerBI report on the page.

      • Blue represents Year-to-Date Uncosted Obligations.

      • Yellow represents Inception-to-Date Costs.

      • Green represents Inception-to-Date Obligations.

      • Orange represents Current Federal Share.


Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What if my project's financial data appears incorrect or outdated?

    If you notice discrepancies or out-of-date information in the read-only sections, understand that the data is imported from source systems like STRIPES, STARS, or CPS. You cannot directly edit this data in PM Bridge. To resolve the issue, you will need to contact the relevant system administrator or support team for the source system where the incorrect data originates.

  2. Can I change my project's approved budget or financial shares directly in PM Bridge?

    The "Total Approved Budget," "Federal Share," and "Recipient Share" in the "Funding Profile" section are read-only. This means you cannot directly modify these values within PM Bridge. Any changes to your project's approved budget or shares must be processed through the official financial management systems that feed into PM Bridge. Consult your financial administrator for guidance on how to initiate such changes.

  3. Why can't I see the "Funding Profile by Budget Period" or "Costs and Obligations" sections?

    These detailed financial sections are specifically designed for Financial Assistance projects. If your project is not categorized as a Financial Assistance project, these sections will not be visible on your Financials page. Confirm your project type to understand which financial details are available to you.

  4. How can I get a clearer picture of my project's financial trends?

    To gain a better understanding of your project's financial performance over time, utilize the "Financial History Graph." Expand the Action panel to reveal this embedded PowerBI report, which visually represents key financial metrics like uncosted obligations, inception-to-date costs, and obligations. This visualization helps you identify trends and review your project's financial health at a glance.
