Sometimes, you initiate a project modification only to realize it was for the wrong project, or perhaps you need to postpone it. This article provides a clear path to cancel an unapproved modification, returning your project to its previous approved state. This ensures flexibility and accuracy in your project management.

When Can You Cancel a Modification?
 
You can only cancel a modification for a project that currently has an unapproved modification in progress.

  • The project's status will be "Mod at HQ", "Mod at Lab", or "Mod Approval Pending".

  • When a modification is initiated, a new project record is created with these indicators, while the changes made are not yet visible in the previously approved version. 


STEP 1: Navigating to the Cancellation Option

  • From the Lab Planning Home page click on the project title for your project that has the status of "Mod at HQ," "Mod at Lab," or "Mod Approval Pending"
  • Go to the Manage Project dropdown menu.

  • Click the "Cancel the Mod" option.

STEP 2: Confirm the Cancellation  

Because canceling a modification is an irreversible action, the system requires your confirmation. This is a critical step to prevent accidental data loss.

  • A warning message will appear: "This action will cancel the current modification and remove the changes made to this modification. Are you sure you wish to proceed?"

    • Review this message carefully. Ensure that you are certain about canceling the modification.

    • Confirm your decision to proceed.


STEP 3: What Happens Next  

Upon your confirmation, the system will execute the following:

  • Reversion of Changes: All changes made within the modified project will be reverted.

  • Deletion of Modified Project: The temporary modified project record will be permanently deleted.

  • Return to Approved State: The project's status will return to its previous "Approved" or "Mod Approved" state.

  • Change History Record: All updates and status changes, including the cancellation, will be recorded in the Change History for audit purposes.

1. What if I accidentally cancel a modification? Unfortunately, canceling a modification is an irreversible action. Once confirmed, all data input for that modification is permanently deleted, and the project reverts to its last approved state. The system prompts for confirmation precisely to prevent accidental cancellations.

2. Where can I see a record of the cancellation? All updates and status changes, including the cancellation of a modification, are meticulously recorded in the Change History. You can access this section to view a complete audit trail of the project's lifecycle.

3. Can I recover a canceled modification? No, once a modification is canceled and confirmed, the system irrevocably removes all modification records and associated data. There is no recovery option for canceled modifications. If you need similar changes, you will have to initiate a new modification process.

4. Will canceling a mod affect my original project? No, canceling a mod will return your project to its most recent approved version. It will essentially undo the unapproved changes, leaving your previously approved project unaffected and restoring its original status and version number.
